Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVRs)

An AVR is an equipment that takes in a wide range of voltage (190V-270V) and then lowers or boosts the voltage to the required preset voltage, so that it supplies a narrow range of voltage (220V-230V) which is safe for the equipment.

An AVR is useful in protecting other important equipment from occasional erratic voltages (under or over voltages) supplied by the grid. In addition, there will be significant energy savings achievable when the grid supplies a higher voltage (over voltage) than the rated motor voltages.

There are several technologies including solid state, servo type, oil cooled, air cooled, etc as per the requirement by the client.

Soft Starters

A soft starter is a solid-state device that protects AC electric motors from damage caused by sudden influxes of power by limiting the large initial inrush of current associated with motor startup. They provide a gentle ramp up to full speed and are used only at startup (and stop, if equipped to do so).

Soft starters are useful in starting and stopping of water pumps, thus saving on KVA demand associated with inrush power during start up of motor while at the same time protecting the piping from damage due to water hammer as a result of sudden start/stop of a pump.
